Best purchase ever! June 26, 2010 Stephanie Cozart Burton (Sherman Oaks, CA United States) My lifestyle does not always allow for a regularly scheduled walk for my toy poodle, so I keep a pad for her in my bathroom. As a new puppy she went to it immediately and we have been using them ever since. I at one time used paper, disposable pads and my "green" conscious spurred me to look for an alternative. These pads wash up beautifully, absorb everything - and solid waste is easily picked up off them. The only improvement I could look for is if they washed themselves!
Way better than disposable! June 23, 2010 timnjojo (Atlanta, GA) After years of using the disposable pads, I switched to these and have been using them for a couple of months now. I have a 5 year old, 6 pound Yorkie, who is trained to go indoors on the pads. It bugged me every time I threw a disposable pad away - so bad for the environment! To transition him, I put a pooch pad under the disposable for a couple of days, then I put it on top for a couple of days, and then I took the disposable away. No problems at all! Also, he seems to hit the pad better (I think the writing on it helps them see it better) and the pad really helps cut down on the odor. I kind of wish I had bought the large ones as he pees quite frequently. I bought two 2-packs and wash three at a time - about every two or three days. I wash them according to the instructions on the package and they seem to be holding up just fine.
Just what I was looking for March 29, 2010 Jerry W. Bingham (Fort Smith, USA) Glad I found these pads for my mini daschund, they work much better than the throw aways, and I have tried them all.
Many thanks for all the people who took the time to review here on Amazon, it is a big help.
I would recommend to all, I purchased the larger size.
We all like pooch pads March 24, 2010 Beverly A. Vics Pooch pads are easy to use. I purchased enough so I can have a full load of laundry with only pads to wash.... washing one or two runs up the cost in laundry detergent, but having enough to wait 'til I have a full(er) load saves on the detergent, the electricity and the time. The puppy seems to find a pooch pad whenever she needs to wee-wee or poop.Washing them is more cost effective than purchasing disposable pads. When I use a pad out on the patio to teach a puppy to go outside to do her business, these pads dry if it should rain on them. Disposable pads soak up with rain water and become unusable. Pooch pads will "rinse" out and dry so the puppy will use them again.
Wonderful product January 25, 2010 E. Hagan (NE Ohio) First of all. I did not buy my PoochPads on Amazon. I got a package of 2 of the large size (30X 32) from PetSmart. Before finding these, I was buying huge supplies of the disposable pads. Those worked just OK, but were not as absorbant as Poochpads, and were much less economical.
I've had my PoochPads for at least a year and they work like a charm. I love not having to constantly hunt for the larger disposable ones at a good unit price. I especially like that these are made from recycled materials and wash and dry quickly with no smell at all. They are very lightweight to handle, wet or dry. I hang to dry when possible. Even washing with bleach each one about every other day, they are still looking almost like new - just a little sag.
I was unaware of this product until I saw it at my local Petsmart. It is the only washable pad brand I've used. PoochPads has their own web site, I notice. Since i purchased from a retail store, I cannot speak for the 1-star reviewer who had a problem with non-shipment and poor customer service.
From googling just now, I see there are other brands of washable pads available so shopping around by price might be advised. I certainly am not a shill for any one brand! Just be sure to take shipping charges into consideration. I notice that the PoochPads now all have a cutesy print on them. Mine are plain beige and grey, which I much prefer. I saw another brand that had both solid color and print so when I need to replace, I may be switching. A sewer might also consider making their own if they can find the right materials.
I do use my pads in a floor protector tray with lock down frame. This might be an answer for those with puppies who scrape and/or chew. I didn't have that problem. My tray is so my blind old dog could have discernible boundaries. Might also help also where the pad has to be on carpet.
All in all, I highly recommend this product.
