does it work? August 16, 2010 Barbara Ice (Austin, TX United States) every one says it helps, but
my dog won't eat it. Anyone need some cheap?
Solved my Dogs' digestive problems August 12, 2010 stephreill (MD) I ordered this because I have bulldogs and occasionally some of them have bouts of colitis with severe diarrhea. Since I have been adding FortiFlora to their evening meal, no diarrhea!
Great stuff! August 2, 2010 A. Malott I have a French bulldog whom are known to have sensitive stomachs. I couldn't find a food that sat with him well. After talking to our vet, they prescribed FortiFlora. It worked perfectly! Our dog took to it immediately and has had no diarrhea since. It obviously tastes just fine to as he has never treated his food differently with this powder sprinkled on it. I am buying it here now since the vet charges $30/box. Definitely recommend this as a supplement for chronic diarrhea problems.
Beware of potential poison contamination in this product July 31, 2010 Doglover My vet recommended this product for my dog when I took him in for a cracked paw (totally unrelated to intestinal issues). I mentioned in casual conversation that he occasionally drinks germy water when at the dog park, but at that time he had no reportable internal problems. I gave him one packet and the next morning woke up to green diarrhea on my rug (he has NEVER pooped in the house). I didn't think much of it b/c I thought the product just didn't agree with his system (acting more like a laxative?) and so discontinued it. A day later, he started having spasms in his rear legs, and then one of his rear legs was oddly raised and he was unable to walk on it. The tremors continued a few days, he had bouts of diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, symptoms would come and go. Then suddenly, he started hunching over like a cat, could barely walk and seemed slightly paralyzed or in shock. I was taking him to the vet every couple of days, but not making the connections, they thought the leg problem was a sprained ACL, then when I took him in again, they thought maybe acid reflux with the hunched back and tensing. Occasionally he was not even able to stand up, after several attempts. Ultimately I detected slight tremors on one side of his neck. Did some research and discovered these symptoms are consistent with rat poisoning. Since he had no reportable issues before being given forti-flora, I can only conclude it was a cross-contaminated form of this pro-biotic. All of this took place over a two week period. Beware of this product. I do NOT recommend it, but if you feel you absolutely NEED to try it, pls only give a very very very small quantity to test it first and WAIT days to see if anything develops. I've seen other people write in on the internet describing issues, but not as conclusive as this has been to me. I'm going to see what I can do about getting an independent lab to run forensic testing on it. Don't trust Purina to be objective with any testing or results.
Tasty and helpful July 26, 2010 Jennifer Antunano (Boca Raton, FL, USA) My dachshund tends to have a sensitive stomach, even with premium, grain- and soy-free food. My vet gave me Fortiflora to sprinkle on my dog's dry food each morning... it helps keep him consistent and "solid" and helps him recover more quickly if he gets "loose". And he really likes the taste, so he is more interested in the dry food. The price online is about $10 less than buying it at my vet.
