Great for cat's too September 7, 2010 loftman I purchased the Kurgo Skybox as safe alternative to travel with my cat.
Pro's:
Since using the Sky Box, traveling with the cat has been a pleasant experience, no more kitty crying.
The Skybox is nicely designed, with quality materials, roomy interior space. Fairly easy to install. The Skybox fits securely to the car seat(both front and back).
Con's:
The Skybox did have a very strong chemical smell when initially removed from the box. I am thinking the manufacture may have protected the materials with a water resistant coating. I was able to remove the smell by washing the interlining (per the directions) and let the canvas box acclimate outside.
The adjustable restraint lead (strap)is too long even at its shortest adjustable length. The problem is easily fixed by shortening the strap to the preferred length and resewing the strap to the box.
Suggestions:
For cat owners, purchase a V-style harness, my first trip with Lucy, she was in the traditional 8-style harness, and she managed to get out.
To help ease travel, let the cat get familiar with the Skybox booster before any travel. Try placing the booster seat in your cat's favorite location in the house. Sprinkle a little cat nip on the cushion top or place your cats favorite bedding in the box.

SkyBox Pet Booster Seat August 27, 2010 Renee (Minnesota USA) I got the SkyBox because it got good reviews and my brother choose it over the others out there for his Shih Tzu. So far it is working out well. It's very easy to take on and off the car seat. And Mystry, my 11 pound Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, seems to enjoy riding in it. I wish it had a zippered door so I wouldn't have to lift her up so far to get her into it, but none of the pet boosters I looked at had this feature.
The thing that bothers me most is that it has a U shaped metal bar that is difficult to get in (once in it's permanent) and the 2 sides of the bar are only covered by the very light orange cover. Even though they are on the sides of the booster seat, I think if I made a fast corner turn Mystry could fall up against the side and be bruised by the bar. For what Krugo charges for this seat they could add some type of covering for the bars or make the cover padded instead of just a thin piece of cloth. There is a pad on the bottom that covers the bottom bar, but I think it would be good for the orange cover to be padded too.
Also the restraint lead is too long. Mystry has a car/walking harness that we use all the time. It has a long loop that the seat belt is supposed to go through, but of course that really isn't needed with the booster seat, with a metal loop on the end for the leash. I can't make the booster restraint short enough to fit without tying it in knots. My sister's Havanese has a regular walking harness and I don't have to change the restraint from Mystry's setting when he rides in the seat. Maybe it wouldn't be too long for a collar, but most of the owners of small dog I know use harnesses on their babies.
Dogs love it! August 22, 2010 cobra1351 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We purchased this car seat because needed one more when we adopted two Japanese Chins from a rescue shelter. It arrived promptly and was packaged great. When I un-boxed it I was overcome by an extremely heavy chemical smell. So much so I was initially afraid to use it for fear that it (the fumes) would harm our precious dog(s). I let it air outside for a couple days and we even took the cover off and washed it but it still smelled horrible. We had to take a trip with the boys so we was forced to use it. The instructions were not that easy to interpret. The pictures didn't support the verbal instructions very well. Not clear at all. Once I figured out how to install it I had no trouble getting it fitted to the front seat of my SUV. So I think it is a good seat at a good price but the odorous fumes make me wonder if the company is more concerned about protecting the fabric during storage and shipping and less about the dogs.
Perfect! April 5, 2010 C. Bournival 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a 6month old Papillion and Terrier who is about 12lbs...and they can both fit comfy and both can see out the window! the little one can curl up in the seat and lay down sit up and see! he is much more alert and car sickness isn't as bad! very very easy to put together and the liner does stay in place and semi easily removable for wash...However i don't really care for the pockets they are so tight to the seat its kinda hard to get in there but usable! fits to my back and front seat and adjust very easily!! i just love it!! great price for the product!
Good buy April 4, 2010 H. Baldwin (Silverdale, WA) I decided to purchase this booster seat when I realized that my Pomeranian has really bad car anxiety. Because he gets anxious in the car, he'd try to jump in my lap (while I'm driving) to feel comforted and safe. Knowing that him being in my lap wasn't safe, and that people aren't always available to hold him, the booster seat was the best choice.
My Pomeranian took to the booster seat quickly, which was a relief. I had him investigate the seat prior to putting it in the car, and he jumped in right away. I love the fact that the seat, tether, and straps are easily adjustable and durable. My only complaint is that the "u-shaped" steel rod was somewhat difficult to insert into the plastic tubes, but it wasn't too big a deal. And yes, the booster seat does have a strong mothball smell, but the good news is that the liner and quilted pad are washable. I washed the liner and pad in cold water (on delicate) and air dried them. I also gave the seat itself time to air out (minus pad and liner). There were no problems after that. Overall, I'm satisfied with this product.
